My annual hot toy predictions!

Long-time readers have been emailing asking about my hot toy predictions.  We’ve been super busy at ChannelAdvisor and I didn’t have time to dig into the data until this week.   Last year, I nailed the Zhu Zhu craze months before people had heard of the robotic rats cute little hamster toys.

This year based on what I’m seeing, we’ll have more hot toys that are more across genders and age groups than the Zhu Zhu craze.  Thus I present to you a couple of hot toys that are already sold out with most of our retailers – get yours fast, because you won’t see these post Halloween.

Zhu Zhu 2.0 – Squinkies and Zoobles

The obvious winner for 2010 following in the huge footsteps of Zhu Zhu is Squinkies (video below).  These are tiny little animals that come in about 1 zillion flavors and little gumball like dispensers.  In addition to being the hot toy, I bet these things lead the charge in choking hazard articles post holiday.

Zoobles are similar and definitely not as hot as squinkies, but I bet parents buy them up because they just want something small and cute regardless of the name.  In case you are curious, the main difference is: instead of starting out inside a ball like squinkies, zoobles start out as a ball and then pop out!  (I can’t believe I just wrote that).

Ok, it’s time for a ZOOBLE DANCE PARTY!!! Everybody HOLLA!!!! OMG BFF LOL!!

Moon walking Mickey (Actually called Dance Star Mickey)

This one is pretty cool, but definitely for the younger set – it’s a robotic ~$80 Mickey that talks and dances.  Kind of a  tickle-me-elmo type thing, but with a lot more articulation.

The moon walk is at 2:22 if you want to skip the preamble.

For the older kids – Paper Jamz

When I first saw these in the store, I have to admit that I didn’t get it.  Then I kept hearing how cool they are and actually tried one and it’s a pretty amazing toy.  The drum set is my personal favourite and the amp is a clever idea too.  Here’s a video if you have no idea what I’m talking about:

Last but not least – Sing-a-ma-jigs

Last but not least are these weird creatures called Sing-a-ma-jigs that sing and interact with each other.

What is your call?

Those are my picks for the hot toys of 2010.  What do you guys think?  Are you finding these in stock or sold out?  I checked a local Wal-mart and Target and they were pretty much sold out of everything already.  The cashier told me the video barbie was her call for hot toy of 2010 – I don’t know something about seeing the world through the eyes of ole Barb is a little strange….although it does remind me of a six million dollar man toy I used to have….
